Solar farm scheme for farmers in Chhattisgarh

To make farming self-reliant in India, solar farm stations will be set up on farmers’ fields, providing facilities for irrigation and other agricultural equipment. The Chhattisgarh government has initiated a project to utilize solar energy for various agricultural purposes. Through this initiative, farmers will not only be able to use solar pumps but also operate rice mills using solar energy. The government has ensured the use of solar energy in agriculture by establishing solar farm stations as part of this project.

Solar Farm Station Along with Rice Mill:

Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, the government has provided farmers with a solar farm station on their fields. This solar farm station, built at a cost of approximately ₹27 lakh, enables farmers to use solar pumps to increase irrigation capacity and operate modern agricultural equipment, including a rice mill. A small rice mill has been established in Dantewada district, which is entirely powered by solar energy. The quality of the rice produced in this mill is better, and there is less breakage of grains. With the use of solar energy, it will be easier for Chhattisgarh farmers to increase their fields’ production capacity.

Benefits to Farmers:

The solar farm station, along with the rice mill, will save farmers time, labor, and costs. A group of farmers has already been trained to operate the solar power station. Traditionally, farmers have faced water shortages for their crops, but with the establishment of the solar farm station, there is now a year-round water supply for irrigation. This will enable farmers to grow about three to four crops in a year.

Use of Solar Energy: The use of solar energy can increase crop production capacity and bring positive changes in the standard of living for farmers. Solar photovoltaic cells convert solar rays into electrical energy. The combination of this energy and modern agricultural techniques is expected to increase agricultural productivity and benefit farmers in Dantewada district. The solar farm station will not only enhance irrigation capacity by powering pumps but also operate modern agricultural machinery such as threshers and weeders. According to the operator of the solar farm station, the rice produced from this solar-powered small mill is of better quality and breaks less, saving farmers time and labor. A group of farmers has already been trained to operate the solar power station.
