Launch of 218 fisheries projects by the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects in Palghar, Maharashtra, focusing on the fisheries sector. Key initiatives include 218 fisheries projects worth approximately ₹1,560 crore and the national rollout of the Vessel Communication and Support system, valued at around ₹360 crore.

Doubling of Fish Production and Exports:

Modi emphasized the critical role of the fishing community in India’s ocean-related opportunities, noting that fish production in India has doubled over the past decade, with seafood exports also seeing significant growth. The launch of the Vessel Communication System is expected to enhance safety and connectivity for fishermen, particularly during emergencies.

Government Initiatives for Women and Fishermen’s Safety:

The Prime Minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to boost women’s participation in the fisheries sector and announced plans to install 1 lakh transponders on fishing vessels for improved communication and safety. Over 110 fishing ports and landing centers are being constructed to ensure the safe return of fishermen’s vessels.

Job Creation and Growth Under Modi’s Vision:

Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Rajeev Ranjan Singh, lauded the Prime Minister’s vision, noting that these initiatives are expected to create over 5 lakh jobs. He also emphasized the doubling of fish production and export values in the last decade, crediting the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana for this growth.

Technological Advancements and Social Security for Fishermen: The government’s efforts include providing fishermen with transponders connected to Android phones for better communication and safety at sea, along with social and economic security through insurance and Kisan Credit Cards.
