Monsoon Begins in Southwest India on May 19, When It Will Reach Your City | Monsoon Update 2024 | Monsoon Update today | Today Monsoon in my location | Monsoon 2024 date

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted an early onset of the monsoon this year. Starting from May 19, the monsoon will begin in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, earlier than the usual date of May 22. Following its arrival in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the monsoon will gradually advance to other states.

Currently, some parts of India are experiencing severe heat and heatwave conditions, while others are seeing thunderstorms and rain. This year, the monsoon update is arriving three days ahead of schedule, and according to the IMD, the country is expected to receive above-average rainfall, which is good news for many regions. The weakening of the El Niño system and the activation of La Niña conditions are favorable for a robust monsoon season.

When Will the Monsoon Hit the Southwest States:

The IMD predicts that the monsoon will reach the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on May 19. It is expected to arrive in Kerala by June 1. Typically, the monsoon reaches Maharashtra between June 10-15. By June 15-20, it usually advances to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. By June 30, the monsoon is likely to cover Delhi, Rajasthan, and other northern regions, and it will spread across the entire country by July 15.

The IMD anticipates that rainfall during the monsoon season from June to September could be up to 106% of the long-term average.

Heatwave Continues in Northwest States:

The IMD has also warned that from May 16, a heatwave will sweep across the northwest states, with Rajasthan expected to be particularly affected. Temperatures are likely to rise over the next three days. However, from May 18, southern regions of India might experience thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rain.

Residents are advised to stay updated on the weather conditions and take necessary precautions against the heat and the approaching monsoon.
